Shiwan ceramic sculpture exhibition underway on Ersha Island
Update: 2020-09-14     Source: Newsgd.com

An exhibition featuring the Shiwan ceramic sculptures of China's arts and crafts master Pan Bolin is being held at the Lingnan Club Cultural Exhibition Hall in Ersha Island, Guangzhou between September 11th and October 11th, 2020.

Shiwan is a town located in the southwest of the city of Foshan, with a long history of ceramic sculpture passed down through several generations of craftsmen. Ceramic sculptures for daily use as well as for art were both produced in Shiwan.

Shiwan ceramic sculpture, an art-form depicting people, animals, architecture and objects, can be dated back as early as the Tang and Song dynasties, about 1,400 years ago. It was selected in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006.

Made with a unique artistic style, Shiwan ceramic sculptures have the characteristics of being humanistic, regional and national. Vividly designed and properly exaggerated from reality, "Shiwan Doll" ceramic sculptures have formed distinguished regional characteristics.

Pan Bolin has been making ceramic sculptures for more than 40 years and is one of the leading artists in the circle of Shiwan ceramic sculpture. His works not only encompass a wide range of topics and styles, but are also uniquely made and vividly designed. Pan mixes other modern elements such as comics into his sculptures too, with a delicate touch and complicated techniques.

The exhibition, organized by the Guangdong Chinese Culture Promotion Society, is open to the public for free.
