Xinghai Concert Hall embraces new music season

Xinghai Concert Hall, the best concert venue in Guangzhou, is going to start a new music season as of September, launching more than 80 shows, installations and online courses over the next four months.

The "Jumbo pipe organ" 

The "Jumbo pipe organ" is the treasure of Xinghai Concert Hall and was one of the biggest organs in Asia when it was built in 1996, worth about 10 million RMB and weighing 40 tons. Shen Yuan, the first Doctor of Electronic Organ, and Chinese-American organist Zhang Qi will work together to present a series of "I love jumbo pipe organ" music concerts in both September and October.

Traditional Chinese music breaks new ground

Zhang Weiliang, master of Di and Xiao, two Chinese bamboo flutes, is going to perform all his masterpieces and two more new music pieces for fans in Guangzhou.

Chen Jun, hailed as the Paganini of huqin, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument and from a family of erhu, another two-stringed bowed instrument, will take the stage with Chen Miaoyi, a popular erhu player, to pay homage to world classics.

Famous guzheng players Chang Jing and Rao Shuxing will present representative works from different schools and music genres along with Rao's father Rao Ningxin, a master of guzheng (a 21-stringed plucked instrument).

Guangzhou Jazz Music Festival

The festival will kick off in mid-to-late November, featuring 25 shows and activities presented by outstanding music bands from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other cities in the Pearl River Delta region.

Piano concerts by young artists

Sun Yingdi, winner of the 7th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, will perform classical works by Brahms and Liszt;

Wang Tianyang, graduated from the Juilliard School and now teaching at the Central Conservatory of Music, will interpret Debussy;

Kong Jianing, British-based young pianist, will present Beethoven's complete piano sonatas to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven.

New Year's concerts

Noted Chinese opera singer He Hui will perform excerpts from classical operas on January 3rd, 2021 during the New Year's holiday. He Hui is the only Chinese singer who has performed in all of the top six opera houses in the world.

Guangzhou New Year's Concert presented by Xinghai Concert Hall has become a brand of the city and is staged every year, rain or shine. The 2021 New Year's Concert will be performed by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, as always, and conducted by the Orchestra’s music director Long Yu.

The concert hall will also work with Guangdong National Orchestra to present a traditional Chinese music concert during the New Year holiday. A dozen masters of traditional Chinese music instruments will join the concert.

Celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday

2020 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven. In September, Xinghai Concert Hall will create a special multimedia installation for fans to take photos, play music games and win commemorative badges. Don't miss out on this Beethoven music party.
