Guangdong venues kick off 2020 performance season on and offline
Update: 2020-06-03     Source: Newsgd.com

After months of coronavirus-related closure, more and more venues in Guangdong are gradually reopening to the public, including Guangzhou Opera House and Xinghai Concert Hall.

Residents in Guangzhou can now enjoy 21 different works including symphonies and dramas presented by 16 art troupes from across the province over the following month during the 2020 Guangdong Performing Arts Troupe Show Season.

Audience will be able to watch a number of works on the theme of 'pandemic prevention and control', paying tribute to the front-line health workers. The opening show of the season 'Moment of Courage' is such a work produced by the provincial culture and tourism department.

You won't want to miss out on a chance to enjoy two concerts in different styles paying homage to heroes in harm's way by the world-renowned Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra on June 5th and one of the most outstanding folk music groups in the country—the Guangdong National Orchestra on June 16th.

The Show Season is also a once in a lifetime opportunity for audiences to view performances of both classical and popular works in Guangdong, including dance, Cantonese opera, Han opera and national opera. For instance, the dance piece 'The Past of Shawan', winner of China's highest prize for professional arts Wenhua Award, will be staged at the little theater of the Guangdong Song and Dance Ensemble on June 26th and 27th.

Government subsidies have led to some hefty discounts on ticket prices, with cheap tickets accounting for over 50% of the total number of tickets. Seven major venues in downtown Guangzhou including the Guangdong Arts Theatre and the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Arts Center are participating in the Show Season. Low-price tickets are available at theaters or through APPs or WeChat accounts.

Furthermore, if you do wish, you even don't have to leave the comfort of your couch to watch these fascinating shows, because Guangdong is bringing them to you via the Xinghai live stream platform (星海直播). Scan the following QR code to watch either the live stream or playback of the shows free of charge on WeChat. Audience can donate tips online, and all these tips will be donated to funding the battle against the pandemic.
