In an effort to memorialize the fight against COVID-19, the city of Guangzhou has launched a campaign to collect handprints of both frontline medics and people who have made a great contribution to the fight against this epidemic from across the globe.

According to the organizer, they will collect the handprints of all the medical staff from Guangdong who lent their support to fight in Hubei, the medical workers on the frontline in Guangzhou, and other individuals who have devoted themselves to containing the virus worldwide.

“We have collected the handprints of Chinese respiratory expert Zhong Nanshan, which is the first handprint for this campaign,” the person in charge said.

The collection of all prints will be showcased to the public, though the location is still to be confirmed, and will later be stored at the Guangzhou National Archives permanently along with other relevant materials after the campaign is over.

In addition, Guangzhou Archives is also calling for special files and materials related to the response to COVID-19, such as written material, pictures and photos, audio and video, equipment, reports, documentaries and works of literature. The collected archives will also be kept permanently.

Moreover, the Guangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles has gathered over 6,000 literary and artistic works on the theme of fighting against the coronavirus since late January. The works including songs, artworks, calligraphy and cartoons are created by both artists and enthusiasts and will be performed, published and exhibited in the future.
