Tourist spots reopen, and how to gain admission

Spring has sprung, and Guangzhou now is a feast for the eyes, blooming with flowers. Luckily, tourist attractions in the city are gradually reopening, as spread of the coronavirus epidemic is being controlled. Silk Road Post lists some of the reopened tourist spots to help you enjoy a pleasant springtime.

Haizhu Wetland Park

Visitors now can enjoy fields of marigolds and blossoming Bauhinia Blakeana (Hong Kong orchid trees) along river banks, and golden oceans of rape flowers in the park. However, no more than 1,000 visitors are being allowed entry to the park every day. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Monday). Visitors need to follow the WeChat account of Haizhu Wetland Park (ID: haizhuwetland) and make appointments online in advance and provide an ID card or appointment QR code when entering.

Baiyun Mountain

Offering spectacular views in spring, Baiyun Mountain is one of the city's most revered natural landmarks. Yuntai Garden and Xinghai Memorial in Baiyun Mountain scenic area reopened on February 23, with opening hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Tourist bus lines from the south gate and west gate also have resumed services. Real-name registrations are required when taking the bus.

Visitors are advised to use online payment for ticket purchase. Also, they must undergo temperature checks before they are permitted to enter.

Canton Tower

Canton Tower, an ideal place to overlook the city, has been partly reopened to the public since March 6. The opening hours of the tower are 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Only 1,000 visitors are admitted each day.

Outdoor entertainment facilities atop the tower have resumed services, including the Bubble Tram and Sky Drop. And two restaurants in the tower, Colour Canton and Chopstix Restaurant, also have again started to provide food for visitors. The opening hours of Colour Canton are 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. -10 p.m. Chopstix Restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m..

However, other restaurants at the tower, including Mediterranean Buffet Revolving Restaurant, and LUTECE French Revolving Restaurant, as well as Jinyi Cinema Sky Club and other indoor facilities, remain closed.

Visitors need to purchase tickets in advance, either online at Canton Tower's WeChat account (ID: guangzhoutaweixin) or from its official website. Visitors are also required to provide reservation information and show their health code from the WeChat mini-program, "Suikang" (穗康), to the staff when entering. People with a travel history to areas hard-hit by the COVID-19 and under 14-day quarantine will be denied entry.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

Reopened on March 1, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is one of the best places to admire kapok flowers, the city flower of Guangzhou. Visitors to the hall are required to wear face masks and have their temperatures checked when entering. However, the main building, exhibition hall, visitor center and baby-care room in the park remain temporarily closed.

Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park is also a perfect place for kapok blossom viewing in March. Visitors to the park have been required to register personal information when they enter since March 6. By scanning a special QR code with their smart phones, visitors can automatically have their contact information and real names registered on the park's system. Or they can bring ID cards and other valid documentation for manual registration with the park staff.
