The Guangzhou Lawyers Association released a 2021 to 2025 development plan for Guangzhou's lawyers on May 6, declaring that the field will be standardized, professional, modern and international by 2025.
The city's legal sector has fully grasped the development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, devoting efforts in five areas including talent training, brand cultivation and deepening cooperation.
Huang Shan, head of the Guangzhou Lawyers Association, said that Guangzhou is expected to have 300 law firms that can conduct foreign-related affairs and have more than 2,500 lawyers handling foreign-related matters.
In recent years, the city has seen deepening cooperation and communication with lawyers from Hong Kong and Macao. A total of 167 law firms had carried out foreign-related business by the end of 2020 and had nearly 700 lawyers handling foreign-related matters.
Guangzhou's law firms will set up 50 branches or cooperation organizations overseas by 2025. The number at the end of 2020 was just 17.
